SERGEEV INSTITUTE OF ENVIRONMENTAL GEOSCIENCE OF THE RUSSIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES (IEG RAS) was organized in 1996 on the basis of the Engineering Geological and Geoenvironmental ResearchCenter of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Engineering Research and Coordinating Seismological Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Complex Laboratory of Hydrogeology and Nature Conservation Technologies (St. Petersburg). By the decision of Presidium RAS in 2016, it was named after academician RAS Prof. E.M.Sergeev, the founder of IEG RAS.
IEG RAS is a team of highly qualified researchers: the institute employs 1 full member and 2 corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 13 doctors of science and 43 candidates of science.
The Institute conducts fundamental and applied research in the area of environmental geoscience, engineering geology, hydrogeology, seismology, and it also coordinates these studies within the framework of federal, academic and municipal programs.
